I wrote a story that ran Monday about former McLennan County Treasurer Danny Lee Volcik challenging incumbent Precinct 3 Constable David A. Maler in the Republican primary.
Maler did not respond Thursday or Friday to messages left at his office seeking comment for the story.
He called back Monday afternoon and said in a voicemail that someone alerted him to the Tribune-Herald article and he was sorry he missed the calls. Maler said he enjoys his job, which rarely keeps him in the office. For the most part, he is in the field serving legal papers. His office serves papers about 2,500 times a year, Maler said in the message.
"There's a lot to do and that takes me out of the office quite a bit," he said. "Most people have my cellphone number if they need to get ahold of me."
He left his office number to call back.
I left a message.
