McLennan County Precinct 2 Commissioner Lester Gibson's absence from this week's meeting marks the 16th meeting in a row he has missed.

He has attended 23 of the last 58 meetings and has not made one in 2018. Gibson, who represents the eastern part of the county, last attended a commissioners court meeting Sept. 19.

There are no attendance requirements for McLennan County commissioners, who make $96,284 a year.

Not much has changed since I wrote this story in early December, quoting other members of the court discussing the absences.

Gibson has served on the court almost 30 years. Gibson is not seeking re-election.

* Correction: I originally said his term ends in November. However, the general election for that position is in November. His term officially ends Dec. 31, allowing the new commissioner to take the seat Jan. 1.
