The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce will honor Baylor’s NFL-bound offensive tackle Jason “J-Smooth” Smith with a sendoff reception 6 p.m. July 16 at the Chamber.
Smith was taken with the No. 2 overall pick by the St. Louis Rams in April’s NFL draft following an All-American senior season. Recruited as a tight end out of W.T. White High School in Dallas, Smith developed into an anchor at left tackle for the Bears, making 38 career starts. He made 96 knockdown blocks this past season, the most ever by a BU offensive lineman.
The sendoff is free and open to the public, and will offer fans a chance to get Smith’s autograph and take photos with him.
