It didn’t take Abilene Cooper senior cornerback T.C. Robinson long to decide that he wanted to join Art Briles’ football program.
After working out at Baylor’s football camp Sunday afternoon in Waco, Robinson got a scholarship offer as he was driving home. He talked it over with his mother and Abilene Cooper coach Mike Spradlin, and gave Baylor his verbal commitment Monday.
“I like Baylor’s coaching staff, and I feel like I can really fit in with the program,” Robinson said. “I like everything about Baylor’s campus. I’ve also got some family on my mother’s side in Waco.”
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Robinson began playing cornerback during his first year on the varsity last season. He used his 4.4 speed to stick to receivers, and showed a knack for deflecting passes.
“I had always played running back and safety, but our coaches needed someone to play cornerback,” Robinson said. “I had to pick it up quick. I got a couple of interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.”
Spradlin believes Robinson has a great future at cornerback after playing the position for just one season on the varsity. Robinson said he also has scholarship offers from SMU and Texas-El Paso, and has been recruited by Texas Tech and TCU.
“T.C. is a great cover guy who can lock down on receivers,” Spradlin said. “He’s got great closing speed and has a knack for playing the football. He’s very athletic and is a real ballhawk out there.”
Robinson is also a track standout who runs on Abilene Cooper’s 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams and the individual 200 meters. He’s Baylor’s seventh verbal commitment in the 2010 class, and the third defensive back, joining Midway’s Ahmad Dixon and Gilmer’s Tristen Holt.
