Baylor receives pledge from 3-star linebacker

Sunday, December 21, 2008

By John Werner

Tribune-Herald staff writer

Baylor continued to add strength to its linebacking corps by receiving a verbal commitment from Converse Judson High School’s Chris McAllister Saturday.

McAllister has started for Judson for three seasons, switching from defensive end to linebacker during his junior year. The 6-2, 215-pound senior visited Baylor two weekends ago, and liked what he saw.

“Baylor is a good school and I like Coach (Art) Briles and the players,” McAllister said. “I also like it that Baylor plays in the Big 12 South because I want to play against the best.”

McAllister chose Baylor over schools like Missouri, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. He’s the second Converse Judson player to verbally commit to the Bears in this class, joining defensive back Anthony Moore.

McAllister is ranked No. 75 nationally among outside linebackers and is a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.

Baylor previously got verbal commitments from Mount Pleasant linebacker Tevin Elliot and San Antonio Reagan linebacker LeQuince McCall.

Robert Griffin is more talented than Tony Romo will ever be and Baylor is clearly doing better recruiting than we've done in a long time. Go Bears!

Recruit Tony Romo and the Bears still can't win more than 5 games even in Big 12 Football.

Nice to see the dream is still alive in Waco. Eat a worm for me in honor of your rope swing.

So glad to see we're recruiting the San Antonio area again. Our previous several coaches seemed to not realize it's the third-largest metro area in the state with tons of talent.

Waco Kid -

You very well may be right. Another problem with Reedy's classes were that although they were fabulous on paper, 3-5 of the top guys each year were non-qualifiers and most never stepped on campus. That attrition rate hurt BU eventually....Go Bears.!

Huge Griffin fan - I think you could argue that even Reedy's classes were not this good for one reason: Briles is bringing in great OL and DL talent. We haven't done that since the late 80's and early 90's with Grant Teaff.

Sic Em Coach Briles!

This has to be one of Baylor's best recruiting classes since the Chuck Reedy days.
