OU’S MR. EFFICIENT
Not many college quarterbacks are as accurate as Oklahoma sophomore Sam Bradford. After completing 69.5 percent as a redshirt freshman, he’s completed 72.2 percent this year. In two seasons, Bradford has a remarkable 52-to-10 touchdown passes to interception ratio. With TCU’s defense geared to stop the run, Bradford threw for 411 yards and four touchdowns in OU’s 35-10 win last weekend.
PROTECTING GRIFFIN
In a 31-28 loss to Connecticut two weeks ago, Baylor freshman quarterback Robert Griffin was constantly on the run. With the Huskies’ defense geared to stop him, he carried the ball 23 times for 46 yards, and was sacked four times. Though he played every offensive down, Griffin took several hard shots. Baylor coach Art Briles hopes to take some of the pressure off Griffin against the Sooners.
PLAYING NO. 1
The Bears have gone 0-10-1 all-time against No. 1-ranked teams. They haven’t played a No. 1 team since dropping a 41-3 decision to Oklahoma on Nov. 15, 2003 in Norman. Baylor’s last home game against a No. 1 team was also against the Sooners, who rolled to a 56-7 win on Nov. 4, 2000, on their way to the national title.
WHEN WILL LOSING STREAK END?
Baylor first played Oklahoma on Oct. 26, 1901. After the Sooners won a 17-6 decision in Waco, the teams didn’t play again for another 72 years. Since 1973, the Sooners have extended their all-time record against the Bears to 17-0, including a 52-21 win last year in Norman.
IT’S NOT ALL PASSING
Though Oklahoma and Baylor like to pass the ball, both teams possess solid rushing attacks. With Robert Griffin and Jay Finley ranked among the Big 12’s top 10 rushers, the Bears are second in the Big 12 with 224 yards rushing per game. Led by DeMarco Murray, the Sooners rank fifth in the league with a 169.5-yard average even after TCU held them to 25 yards on 36 attempts.
