Lofts aren't just for big cities like New York anymore. Right here in downtown Waco chic urban lofts are
attracting college students, young professionals and urban-minded empty nesters. Whether you're looking to own or rent one of these chic urban dwellings, there are plenty of options at the heart of downtown.
New construction lofts, at the corner of 4th Street and Austin Avenue, are being built and pre-leased for the fall of 2008. Not only do the Austin Avenue Flats boast a great
location, they include first class features inside like hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and outdoor terraces. Residents can choose from eight floor plans ranging from 540 to 1,504 square feet.
According to Michael Wray, Managing Partner for Waco Town Square, pre-sales for the Austin Avenue Flats have been a huge success. "It's unusual to have this number of pre-sales and pre-leases this early in the construction process," Wray said.
For those who yearn for the historic feel of the downtown Renaissance, Holiday
Hammond and Behrens Lofts offer traditional warehouse conversion lofts. "These lofts are perfect for someone who's not just looking for a normal apartment," Ginger Townley, owner of Waco Loft Living said. "Both Behrens and Holiday Hammond Lofts
offer a rich history, open floor plans, 14' to 16' ceilings, exposed brick and
ductwork and beautiful views of downtown Waco."
The Holiday Hammond Lofts are located in the middle of Waco's Entertainment and Riverwalk District, at the corner of Second and Mary Street. This building has had many uses since its construction in 1913. In the late 1990's the warehouse was converted into 16 residential lofts of one and two bedroom units with original hardwood floors and massive exposed wood beams. As an added bonus, two restaurants are located on the ground floor of the building.
Another historic option for downtown dwellers are Behrens Lofts located just blocks from Baylor University and within walking distance to downtown restaurants. This six-story building consists of 57 residential loft apartments and has a basement and two elevators. All units in this building have high ceilings, polished concrete floors and a washer and dryer in each unit. This historic building boasts breathtaking views of downtown Waco landmarks like the suspension bridge and courthouse.
Mike Osborne and Carrey Beard love their loft on the sixth floor of Behrens. "I've always wanted to live in a loft and I'm so glad Waco has them available now," Beard said. "I love looking out on the views of the downtown skyline at night and being within walking distance to restaurants like Ninfa's." The couple's loft is a blend of non-traditional eclectic pieces. Filled with natural light, their loft is a perfect place for Mike to do his artwork of colored pencil drawings and uniquely painted furniture.
Downtown Waco is coming alive with revitalization efforts from the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce and local business owners and developers. This epicenter of economic development will be adjacent to the existing River Square shopping center, Waco City Hall and the Waco Convention Center. The goal is to make Waco Town Square a gathering point for Wacoans and college students to enjoy unique dining and shopping experiences.
