Robinson man takes top honors at Waco iris show

Michael LoweMichael Lowe (left), of Robinson, won top honors in the horticultural division of the Waco Iris Society’s annual show in Waco.

Lowe’s entry, “Drama Queen,” was named Queen of Show. Lowe will receive the American Iris Society Horticulture Sweepstakes and the silver medal for most blue ribbons. 

There were 210 entries and 10 exhibitors in the show April 17.

Dan and Peggy Cathey, of Covington, were first runner-up with “Candy Cane Cutie” and will receive the AIS bronze medal for second-most blue ribbons. 

Ken AndersonIn the artistic division, Ken Anderson (right), of Gatesville, won the best artistic design award for his entry “50’s Fads.”  Anderson also won the Artistic Design Sweepstakes for most blue ribbons in that division and the iris best blend award.

Hazel Haik, of Waco, won best gold iris. Glenn and Gloria Huddleston, of Whitney, won best green iris.

Dan Cathey, of Covington, was chairman of the show, whose theme was “The Fabulous 50’s.”
