EarthKind landscaping
Professor Doug Welsh, extension horticulturist at Texas A&M University, will present a program on EarthKind landscaping from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Carleen Bright Arboretum.
Welsh specializes in landscape water management and Xeriscape, the practice of gardening and landscaping that reduces irrigation needs.
Admission is $5. The Arboretum is at Bosque Boulevard and Estates Drive in Woodway.
Learn about composting
Suzie Seibel, an environmental educator for 16 years, and Carla Carr, an experienced home composter, will lead a vermicomposting workshop from 10 a.m. to noon July 10 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waco, 4209 N. 27th St.
Vermicomposting uses worms to create nutrient-rich soil that promotes a clean, odor-free, environmentally-friendly way to get rid of kitchen scraps while producing good soil for use in flower and vegetable gardens.
Cost is $10 which includes bins, worms and materials to maintain your own vermicompost system.
The workshop is appropriate for adults and supervised children. To register, e-mail sa@uuwaco.org.
