Penney Simpson, who closed her Beatnix coffeehouse at 19th Street and Lake Shore Drive in July 2008, likely will reopen in the Britt’s Burger Barn location at 1700 Colcord Ave.

She hopes soon to sign a lease on the building and open as Beatnix Burger Barn on Feb. 1.

“Under our care, it will still be 'The Barn,’ and it will serve Waco’s best burgers, but we will add that special Beatnix environment: music, art, poetry, free wi-fi and, of course, our delicious coffee and frozen drinks,” Simpson wrote on her Web site. She added that plans for a second Beatnix on Austin Avenue downtown are on hold.
